Asprey Calamander Jewelry Box with Secret Compartments, c1860 LONDON Dressing

Rare early Asprey Jewelry box in exotic Calamander veneer with brass edging and fittings.  Coming directly from a local estate where it has been for many years.

Top opens to a lined interior with square compartments along the back side.  Lower drawer is spring loaded and blue velvet lined.

Once lower drawer is fully removed, two spring loaded compartments of either side open when concealed buttons are pressed from the interior.

This piece has missing elements, but would be outstanding with a french polish.

Condition:  Missing an interior removable tray.  Keys missing.  Top portion lock is damaged, a portion has been removed, but present.  The front portion of the key hole is missing (should have a pull down front like the lower drawer).  One of the secret compartments does not work with the spring action, appears to have been forced out and shows wood loss.  Loss to areas of the finish due to overpolishing.

A very nice box in current condition, but could be outstanding with a full restoration.

An identical one is currently being offered for $4,500, in complete condition.

Measurements: 7 1/4″ H x 14″ W x 10 1/2″ D

*Bruno the bulldog is not included*
