A Federal Style Inlaid Mahogany / Tambour Secretary Desk

Directly from an estate where it descended in the family since new.  Dates to the early 20th century.  Retailed through Hathaway’s in New York (retains original label), but similar in quality to pieces made by Beacon Hill.  Very fine quality in this distinctly American form.  Three pieces, upper case with three brass finials over two glazed doors opening to shelves. Center case with tambour doors concealing pigeon hole compartments and drawers flanking a center prospect door with inlaid urn.  Lower case with fold out felt lined writing surface over two long drawers.

Condition:   Overall very good for age.  Retains original keys.  Wear to felt lined writing surface.  Normal finish wear, nothing significant.  Retains original brass finials.  Losses to string inlay on upper long drawer.  Lopers need stops replaced.  Some old spilled ink residue in top drawer.  Piece looks much better in person than in photos.
